The International Compliance Association (ICA), the leading professional body for the global regulatory and financial crime compliance community, has launched the Compliance Foundations Professional Certificate via the award-winning [1] edX platform, part of 2U, providing millions of learners worldwide with access to affordable, high-quality online education.

The programme comprises three self-paced online courses: “An Introduction to Regulation”, “Regulation and the Role of Compliance” and “Compliance in Practice” which provide foundational knowledge, ideal for fresh graduates seeking a more vocational route into compliance or more seasoned professionals looking to gain an understanding into the subject and pursue it as a new career.

The course aims to enhance learners’ understanding of regulation and the practical application of compliance by exploring the objectives of regulation and the importance of maintaining regulatory and financial crime compliance. Enrolling on the course will allow candidates to learn more about the role, relationships and skills needed of a compliance professional, thereby adding great value to their career. The course is available to enrol for free with options to upgrade. ICA will be offering more short courses in anti money laundering, financial crime prevention and governance, risk and compliance via the edX platform in the coming months.

Through its partnership with edX, ICA joins more than 250 university and corporate partners, who are committed to expanding access to education worldwide, including the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, University of California, University of Cambridge and Google.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts 18% growth in the sector by 2030, amounting to nearly 7,000 openings per year on average [2]. According to a recent report by LexisNexis [3], in 2020 risk and compliance roles surged by 37% driven by the Covid-19 pandemic and remote working posing several security risks. In 2023, despite significant budget cuts, demand for risk and compliance was estimated to have grown by 7%.

ICA President Pekka Dare commented: “We are proud to be partnering with the leading online education provider, edX, to provide access to ICA’s expertise and our practical content. edX was founded by Harvard and MIT to make the world’s best education available to everyone; this partnership expands its remit in the financial crime prevention and regulatory compliance space, where skills and expertise have never been in greater demand.”
